NANTUCKET GARDEN – 30′ X 24″
In the ’80’s, my sister, Sheri, took me on a trip to Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. It created memories of a lifetime. One of my favorite memories is of quaint old houses, recreated as little shops. This Flower Shop is an example.
As I strolled by the house/shop, I was struck by the beauty of the flowers. The fact that someone grew these flowers in their yard, to cut and sell was a revelation. What a concept… “Grow your own and sell them!”
I meticulously set out to draw each individual flower in my detail-oriented way and quickly realized, I was going to have to give up my “attention to detail” just a bit for the overall flow of the painting.
One comment I would like to make that I found amazing; I subscribe to a publication called, “Artist’s Magazine”. One day, years ago, I was looking at a current issue and came across this exact location in Nantucket, but another artist’s rendition of the scene that was so different than my own. The flowers were different, the angle and perspective of the scene was different…yet it was the SAME house, and brick walkway. I found it amazing that another human at another time chose to paint this scene for it’s colorful beauty also.
