California’s State flower is humble flower chosen in 1903 to represent California for its bright golden orange flowers, symbolizing “the Golden State” and harkening back to the history of California during the gold rush of the 1800s.

I chose to paint he flowers close up because it was growing all along the hill outside of my studio windows.
