The waters off the California coast can be turbulent; especially in winter. This is a winter scene inspired by a winter walk on our So-Cal beach. It was painted and sold years ago, but I still love the feel of winter that it captures.
It was primarily created from my head with the memories and “feeling” of a cold, blustery walk on the beach. Of course, I have files of assorted cloud varieties to study as needed for certain paintings. I keep photos in files labeled “clouds, sea, beaches, seagulls” etc. to help me ascertain certain elements of a desired painting.
I have always struggled with depicting rock formations. It shows here.
