The classic cactus in bloom is one of the most rare and beautiful of all sites in the visual of floral displays. The inspiration for this painting was in the blooming along the side of the road in Mexico.

I dropped the actual, “busy” background and painted a dramatic sky blue fade. The result highlighted the areas of the cactus I wished to bring up to the forefront in the viewers eyes.

The light on the lower right bloom is one that draws the eye to that area. It is the lightest area of the painting. The “sky” blue in between the blooms adds contrast and color.
