This thunderhead appeared and grew with rapid speed over the mountains in Lone Pine. Sequoia National Park and California’s tallest mountain, Mt. Whitney (14,494 feet above sea level) are just on the other side of the visible mountain range in this painting, though inaccessible directly by car. One needs to drive around the mountain range to visit the Sequoias.
Of course, what captured my attention was the amazing rays of sunlight falling in scattered beams, near and far – over the mountains.
As usual, I embellished and extracted details, color, light/shadow where I thought it would improve the ambiance.
There is no mistake that the telephone poles are in this painting. I intentionally left them in to remind us that man is so fleeting; so puny, in comparison to the forces and majestic beauty of Nature and God.
