14 Norport Drive was my home for the first 21 years of my life. It was my father’s playground. He designed the first commercialized mass marketed catamaran, the Aqua-Cat. One day, my father, Art Javes, gave Mr. Hobie a tour of his factory, American Fiberglass. Hobie copied and improved on the design, making Hobie Cat the leader in small cat sales. The Aqua-Cat is still in production today.
This painting shows a hibernating Aqua-Cat resting in the backyard. Snow is dusting the gravel driveway path that snaked through the backyard. Snow dusts the marshes too. The sunsets were often spectacular from our vantage point in Connecticut. I felt extremely lucky to have been born in this area of the world. When I dream of home, it is always 14 Norport Drive that dominates my dreams.
